Don’t Miss Our New Design Contest!

The Summer Solstice occurred at 11:28AM on Monday, June 21st, and with it, the official beginning of Summer! Here’s to hot, sunny days filled with family, friends, flags and fun!

As we first told you last summer, we’ve sold over a million flags, mailbox covers, mats and other outdoor decorative art products over the years – but we seldom get to see the many creative ways you display them at your homes, and in your gardens and outdoor settings.

That all changed when we did our first ever Flag Fables Design Contest last July. We had an amazing response to our contests last year and it was great to see how creative you all are!

So, it seemed a fitting way to celebrate the beginning of this new Summer with a new contest:

Announcing the Flag Fables Summer Best Outdoor Design Contest!

It’s easy to enter – just send us an original digital photo of your favorite outdoor setting with either individual, or a combination of, flags, yard art pieces, mailbox covers and/or doormats by Tuesday, July 13th, 2010. Your photographs can be taken at your own home, with your own design ideas, or at someone else’s home whose designs inspire you.

We’ll post the top entry photos here on our blog for everyone to see and then select and announce our favorite designs by Monday July 19th, 2010.

The winner will get a $250 Flag Fables Gift Certificate and the two runners up will each get a $100 Flag Fables Gift Certificate!

Contest Rules:

1. Email up to 3 original photographs of your favorite outdoor art design along with your address & phone number to me wendy@flagfables.com by midnight, Tuesday, July 13th, 2010. We’d love to see & share your Summer ideas, but you can submit settings from any season.

2. All photographs must include either an individual flag, mailbox cover, yard art display, door mat or some combination of them.

3. All photographs become property of Flag Fables and we reserve the right to use them for promotional purposes like posting them to our Web sites.

4. Limit one entry per family.

5. If the same home setting is entered more than once, and that setting wins, the first photograph submitted will be the winner.

6. Photographs previously submitted are not eligible for this new contest and will be disqualified if entered.

7. No purchase necessary.

So, send me photographs of your best, most favorite design work. The entries we received last year were wonderful! I can’t wait to see what else you’ve done!

Contest Winning Settings: The Next Runner Up

Sandy also chose a holiday setting for her entry and, although she only submitted on photo, it gave us a strong sense of her complete setting. We loved the precise composition of her design: huge wreaths and light snowmen perfectly balanced on either side of the front doorway which were complimented by smaller elements of red and green throughout the setting. These all created a great base for the applique flag hanging from the second floor balcony which completed the setting by pulling your eyes upward so you took in the entire scene.

Thank you, again, everyone for taking the time to send us photographs of your work! As always, it was a fun contest and it was great to see your wonderful creativity.

Next on the holiday gift idea list: the men in your life!

There are few more direct ways into the hearts & minds of most of the husbands, sons, fathers, grandfathers and nephews in our lives than sports. Whether for holiday gifts, birthday gifts or just about any gift-giving occasion, sports-themed items are always a “hit!”

Contest Winning Designs: The Next Runner Up

And, finally, here’s the wonderful work from the last of the three runners up in the Flag Fables Outdoor Design Contest. These are the photographs submitted by Bonnie C., from Kentucky.

If you look back you’ll see that Bonnie also sent in photographs of her designs for our last contest as well. We love the way Bonnie was able to create such a full and colorful setting despite that fact that it covers a lot of property! She used a mix of flags, wreaths, wall hangings, signs and, most importantly a ton of brightly colored flowers to pull everything together.

So, now that you’ve seen all four winners, you understand why we had such a difficult time choosing just two runners up and why we added a third one!

Joyce’s setting design is a fun and colorful nod to Halloween! She used three completely different flag designs but was still able to achieve a strong, coordinated look by selecting designs with the same color pallet. We love the way she further accentuated those colors with groupings of bright orange pumpkins & leaf garlands and yellow mums.

Contest Winning Outdoor Designs – Runners Up

Here are the first of the photographs submitted by the three Runners Up to our Outdoor Design Contest. We’ll start with the the designs from Runner Up Rue Anne S. from Pennsylvania.

Similar to Robin’s designs, we loved the way Rue Ann created her settings using a combination of flags and Yard DeSigns along with antiques, furniture, other signage, plants and lighting. There were lots of different colors and textures, but everything worked together creating a wonderfully cohesive look.

Big E Thank You!

The Big E is a wonderful and exhausting adventure each Fall – we have a lot of fun seeing so many of our customers and meeting new ones!

And it’s exhausting creating and running two new stores for seventeen days. We couldn’t do it without the wonderful energy of our regular staff – Debbie, Dana and Judy. And our special Big E staff – Kate, Kaitlyn, Billie, my daughter Paige and my husband Jeff.

And, this year, we really “flew in the support troops” – my sister-in-law, June, came all the way from Atlanta to work with us for the entire seventeen days! And two of Paige’s friends from college came to help as well – Allison came in from Boston and Lauren came from Rhode Island.

So, now that’s it’s over and we’ve almost unpacked and reorganized everything, I wanted to take a moment to say “Thank You” to everyone. Thank you, to all of our customers – as always, we appreciate your business! And, thank you, to our staff - it was great to work with all of you and we couldn’t have done it without you!
